When painting this model I tried to create a contrast between the upper and lower halves of the model. I wanted the upper half to have the feeling of death, decay, and age; with the lower half having being richer and more full of life to represent all of the trapped souls. To accomplish this I painted the top of the model with less saturation, aging and rusting the equipment. On the lower half I used more saturated colors and kept everything very clean.
